The hall, designed in 194?, sits on a transitional space where the city transitions from the old to the new. Batley was inspired by Traditional Indian Architecture to design the building’s elements. There was a distinct plinth and the super structure (“with coursed joints in the walling material”). The chajjas accentuated the form’s horizontality. The roof, however, departed from the Indian Aesthetic almost completely, reminiscent of the neo Renaissance buildings in Italy. All these elements came together to form a building that seemingly blended the styles of the East and the West.
